Why I Think Peter Petrelli Should Die
With each new character introduced on Heroes, part of the fun is determining exactly what powers they have. Some are immediately obvious (Nathan can fly, Claire can heal herself), while others are a little more obtuse (Niki has superhuman powers but what's with the split personality?). When you pit one of the 'good heroes' against one of the 'bad' ones, there is also fun in trying to guess who has the upper hand and, to use a video game phrase, what 'moves' would allow one to triumph over the other. That's why I feel the characters of Peter Petrelli and Sylar are such big cop outs.
If you create a super hero who can basically have all powers and who is so much stronger than the rest of the characters, it no longer becomes much fun when they are matched against a lesser hero. If Peter can use anyone's powers that he has come in contact with, he basically becomes Superman and can defeat everyone.
If you watched the last Superman movie, you know just how boring this can be. The writers begin trotting out the one thing that can harm the character over and over again in a ploy to bring jeopardy into the plot, but everyone knows that the super man won't be permanently harmed. What's the one thing that can harm Peter? Good question. He has Claire's invulnerability so I would guess he doesn't have any weaknesses. That only makes things even more boring. The only time that I actually think Peter's powers are interesting is when he's matched against Sylar -- an even match. But *yawn*, apparently Sylar can't be killed either so where's the dramatic tension? I'm hoping this season will somehow reduce Peter's and Sylar's powers. Ideally to me, both characters will either be knocked down a few pegs on the power ladder or they'll obliterate each other once and for all, restoring some balance to the Heroes world.
